Today, HSNP delivered Kshs. 214million to 79,313 Group 2 households across the four Counties of Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit and Turkana. The emergency payments were triggered by the vegetation cover index report of December 2016. Each household received Kshs. 2,700. This drought emergency payment is co-financed by Government of Kenya and Government of UK (UKAID). HSNP cash transfers are delivered through Equity Bank Accounts, where the households can access the money through payment agents within their sub-locations.
The lists of selected group 2 households have been delivered to the local Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs. Group 2 households are encouraged to confirm whether they are on the lists. Selection of the Group 2 households to receive this emergency payment was based on i) the poverty status of the household ii) the drought status of the sub-County and iii) whether the Group 2 household has an active bank account.
See attached the drought status map across the four Counties as of end of December 2016 (VCI report). For more information, contact the County specific National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) offices in the listed four Counties.
